I am hearing about transfers since childhood. I
used to get excited by transfers. New town, new house, new people, new
school, new culture and plenty of time to understand those and compare
with the existing ones. Most importantly, appreciating the best of both.
I realize with all new things, also comes lot of adjustment, lot of
compromises, lot of challenges, as part and parcel of game. Most of the time people don’t want to come out of their own comfort zone.
People are forced into changes, either by their situation: personal or
profession or some protocols made by Goras and copied by Kalas.
My number also came, after seeing 26 springs in life I also got opportunity to get transferred. I was transferred from Pune to Gurgaon . The distance was 1400 KM, I understood the nitty-gritty of real challenges of a transfer. All the excitement had died down, and replaced by lot of maturity and responsibility. Excitement of relocation allowance, coming to new place, meeting new people were subdued long back. All that was on in mind was to find a place to survive in this unknown hostile city. I am a Bihari raised in Mumbai, But still I had unknown fear of this city called Gurgaon.
Gurgaon on 16th August 2010. Nation had celebrated Independence day a day before. I felt I lost it. If you are from this part of world, you know its the worst time to land. In rainy season Gurgaon is next only to Venice. Every road looked like a canal, but neither can you drive/walk nor can you run vessels. But anticipation of unknown doesn’t mean its bad. It may be the reason behind people taking less innovative path.
I managed to put myself in a Bread and Breakfast on Sohna road called Cinnamon Stays. I was not aware what I am up to…. I am going to be treated with one of the most different and amazing experience of my life till now. I expected a typical boring hotel/Guest house but welcomed by typical home away from home (not house, people specially studies in Northern India can understand the meaning with exact feeling). There were no Lobby, not parallel and facing each other kind of rooms, like the one made by mechanical drafter on drawing board. Anyways I was surprise pleasantly and become fearful of unknown at the same time. Well somehow the first feeling was going to stay for ages and later was just momentary.
The caretaker asked me to come to first floor, I entered a room which was different. It missed the blankness of a typical KFC original recipe which you find in a typical 5 star room, I am glad it did. It was as spicy as typical Indian Food. It has many artwork, photos or vintage paintings which let you recollect your own past and make you revisit your memory lane. also found a DVD player and DVD of Kanti Shah / Mithun da’s Movies Gunda, Loha, Suraj. The epic collection of cult cinema will make you remember those days. The each and everything was in sync with the entire theme. And it was not coincident; it was result of detailing of work and hard-work done by some real artists or at least someone who was born as artist. By the time I understood, that coming 7-10 days are the one of those few which we remember all through life. The entire atmosphere of the room was fabulous. It was designed especially for bachelor who want to remember his college/golden days. The entire room was in one connected theme. Not a single thing was out of place, whether its small-small articles or queen size bed.
The entire room was enough to let you forget entire tiredness of day and indulge you in a very different creative world.
The evening came and I was told I will be joined by the owners of place. My mind started again, Why, Owners are not supposed to meet the guest, are they? Especially someone who is from middle management job of corporate, in short I am not influential enough to get them any business, not yet. I am just staying for few days. Are they some lucky chap, who got money by virtue of location of native place of theirs. Don’t they have anything else to do and want to have meal with me. Why? There were thousand more such questions in mind. Mind had limitations due to experience I had till now and typical stereotypes.
I was wrong, grossly wrong.
Anyways I met the owners, The entire atmosphere was flowing the positivity. The secret of creativity in the room was out. They started sharing the story of the place. How they have crafted the entire place. My Saraswati Quotient was going up. They both were very different and miles away from a typical guest house owner or even a typical KFC original recipe type boring hotel managers. I was told there are 5 rooms and all 5 are based on 5 different themes. The one I was staying was called “Purani Jeans”. Now I was able to connect better.
I was shown the 4 others too, each and every thing were handpicked by them and following a certain theme. Unlike many other place of similar nature, there was no need to write the name of rooms on their doors, Once you are in you will come to know automatically, as if each room is a master pieces of Satyajit Ray: entirely different from each other still all brilliant ones.
Finally I found a permanent place to live and I left the place after building 9 days of life long memory. The day I was leaving I had to go to my new place , Owner told me I will drop you, Before I could think something, my 9 days of experience convinced me its just as they are, they are different. I am not saying you will get personalize drop service everytime, I am just saying I met some real nice people whom I won’t forget for life. By the time only in 9 days I was ready to fight for a living in totally different city. The most difficult days were full of joy.
Not that there are no flip side, this place is 5 km from main area of Gurgaon but for the experience you get, I am certain those things will become secondary in front of other facilities and experience you get. If you are coming to Gurgaon for few days and you want to experience something new and very special, I recommend you must visit Cinnamon Stay and try the hospitality: You will love it!
